Energy Care Packages Distributed by CEPM

Staff from the Center for Energy Policy and Management (CEPM) at Washington & Jefferson College worked with students at Fort Couch Middle School and staff at the LeMoyne Center in Washington, Pa., over the summer to make and distribute energy care packages for families in the area.

Each care package contained LED light bulbs, outlet meters, weather stripping, and outlet insulators. When installed, these materials can save families up to 20 percent on their energy bills, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

The care packages were assembled by approximately 40 student volunteers from Fort Couch Middle School with materials purchased through grant funding from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. Once assembled, the packages were distributed by CEPM staff at a food bank event held at the LeMoyne Center. More than 200 care packages were given to families as a part of the food bank event.

“The care packages provide tools that will help families save energy and money. We are proud to work with our partners from Upper St. Clair School District and the LeMoyne Center to provide families with these important resources,” said CEPM Director Corey Young.

The Center plans to deliver a second round of care packages at an additional food bank event later this year.
